Profiled by NOTION as a “songwriter and producer to watch”, British-American artist Merrick Winter bridges the gap between contemporary indie-folk and the classic American songbook. Harking back to the sounds of Laurel Canyon, his staunch dedication to storytelling, reveals classic influences like The Beatles, Paul Simon & Randy Newman. Originally from a small Midwestern college town, founded by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi (The Beatles’ Guru in the late 60s), he was raised in a community of spiritual seekers, to an Anglo-Irish mother and a Texan father, learning to meditate at the age of ten. After relocating to the UK, Winter went on read English Literature at King’s College London.

Praised for his ability to hold an audience through narrative detail and effortless guitar accompaniment, his live performances have drawn comparison from early James Taylor and Jackson Browne, to Andy Shauf and Elliott Smith. Recent appearances include sold out headline shows at Servant Jazz Quarters in London and The Virgil in Los Angeles, in support of his debut EP Eve of Disaster, as well as the Fete Da La Music in Paris, The Cambridge Folk Festival.
